The Regata Storica, so named in the 1889, has more than 600 years. The demostration revokes the return of Caterina Cornaro venetian noble woman married to Giacomo II The king of Cipro, to Venice on june the first of 1489.The arrival of the queen is revoked by an historical procession which opens the ancient Regata: palaces, roof-terasses are decorated with colth arras and damasks. The Bucintoro is adorned with gold sculptures. It takes the nobles, dressed with silk and brocade, the ambassadors from the Est and the senators along the Canal.
The passing boats are guided by the “Serenissima” with 18 paddles, where the Doge and Caterina are.

Nowadays, after the boats passing the Regata among the different districts of the city starts with little gondolas with 2 paddles.
